If I have an interview I take an updated copy of my resume with me, but I have never taken a cover letter to accompany the resume. Someone mentioned to me that they always take a copy of their cover letter to present to the interviewers. To me this seems pointless as they will learn more about you during the interview than a cover letter could provide. I would bring one annotated copy for yourself to review and maybe one backup… but I've never given out cover letters in interviews.
