Special educators will undoubtedly meet and teach students who seem to have difficulty telling the truth. Some of them may blame others to avoid getting in trouble, while some children may embroider elaborate stories as a means to join conversations. For other children, chronic lying may be part of an emotional or behavioral disorder. The child who exaggerates, tells lies, or distorts the truth does so for a variety of reasons.
For example, if you leave your car doors unlocked , you might become a victim of burglary. The act of leaving your car unlocked does not mean you were responsible for or to blame for the burglary, but it is a behavior that increased the likeliness of the burglary. This also applies to juvenile victims. Disaffected rebellious youth often challenge authorities and disobey rules. The behaviors these youths demonstrate can increase the likelihood of them becoming juvenile victims. Once victimized, it is important for juveniles to have the skills necessary to overcome victimization.
One such technique involves the use of coping skills worksheets. Coping skills are simple techniques that a person uses to deal with stressful situations. It can be in the form of meditation, taking care of a pet, engaging in a hobby and so on. However, gaining these coping skills and making it a habit takes time and practice. Thankfully, there are several tools that can help you get started and work your way to building a more positive and self confident you.
Coping skills are activities anyone can do to help manage difficult thoughts and feelings or challenging situations. In this post, I'm focusing on Relaxation Coping Skills, those skills designed to help your child calm down, settle and chill out. Keep in mind that not all coping skills will work for all people.
