If you've been looking for a crash course in basic logic — or just want to explain to a friend exactly what a logical fallacy is — turn your attention to these simple, easy-to-understand videos, which lay out the basics of critical thinking. Creative solutions agency Bridge 8 created these animations to offer a basic overview of critical thinking. The videos were designed for an audience of kids Edit: Australian grades, not ages , but they're handy for anyone who wants to brush up on their logic. The first video up top , provides an introduction to critical thinking and how we form judgments and opinions. The second video introduces formal logic and explains logical fallacies. The fourth video reminds us to separate the person from the argument.
Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, Marie Curie, Sigmund Freud…these are just a few of the critical thinkers who have shaped our modern lives. Critical thinkers think clearly and rationally, and make logical connections between ideas -- they are crucial to exploring and understanding the world we live in. Critical thinkers are focused on constantly upgrading their knowledge, and they engage in independent self-learning. They make some of the best leaders , because they can reach new planes of self-improvement and self-actualization. Careful observation includes our ability to document details, and to collect data through our senses. Our observations will eventually lead to insight and a deeper understanding of the world.
What they will expect, though, is for you to be able to think ; to know how to make connections between ideas and evaluate information critically. It seemed like something that my teachers just expected us to pick up in the course of our studies. While I venture that a lot of us did learn it, I prefer to approach learning deliberately, and so I decided to investigate critical thinking for myself. What is it, how do we do it, why is it important, and how can we get better at it? This post is my attempt to answer those questions.
